About Us

The Central Oregon Medical Society supports continuing education,
professional collaboration, and personal connection among medical professionals

The Central Oregon Medical Society supports continuing education, professional collaboration, and personal connection among medical professionals throughout Crook, Deschutes, and Jefferson Counties. We typically offer several educational programs throughout the year with dinner and childcare provided, as well as an annual family event. COMS also partners with organizations including St. Charles Health System, Central Oregon Independent Providers Association, Central Oregon Community College, and City Club of Central Oregon to offer larger programs of benefit to our members and the communities.

Founded in 1919, COMS is among the oldest medical societies in Oregon, and boasts the third largest membership in the state. COMS is governed by an executive committee elected by the general membership. In 2014, we revised our bylaws to grant membership to Physician Assistants, and in 2016 our membership voted overwhelmingly to welcome Nurse Practitioners.

Recognizing the toll that burnout and moral injury have upon our colleagues, COMS partnered with the Oregon Wellness Project in 2018 to offer free access to confidential counseling professionals. Learn more on our wellness page.
